Chef China Space-Themed Sichuan Restaurant Review

chef china space theme entrance

Stumbled across Chef China located in Bugis (at the end of Liang Seah Street) on a late night in search of a late dinner option. We were greeted at the entrance with an astronaut and a very cute space-themed interior.

They offer delicious Sichuan Chinese food and the best part is they are open till quite late – a great food option for late dinners / party nights out.

chef china menu

The variety of dishes offered at Chef China is insane. From classic Chinese dishes like Tomato Scrambled Eggs and Gong Bao Ji Ding, they also have Grilled fish (kao yu) and even skewers (chuan chuan). There are too many pages, so just featuring their skewer menu.

To be honest we were really spoiled for choice and since there were only 2 of us, we couldn’t order too many things. I would definitely be back to try their grilled fish.

What We Ordered

Tomato Scrambled Eggs

Tomato scrambled eggs are one of my favourite dishes so we had to order it. If you can’t tell by my site name, I love eggs 🙂

What I loved about Chef China was that there are preset options you can select on how you would like the dish to be cooked (e.g. with less oil). So if you have specific preferences, the ordering process is already streamlined to make specifications easy and straightforward.

We ordered our eggs with less oil, but it still tasted delicious! I did wish that there was more tomato sauce to eat with my rice but i guess that does come from the oil :”)

Steamed Chicken with Chili Oil (口水鸡)

Saliva chicken is another one of my favourite dishes. I really enjoyed this dish because it was packed with refreshing fresh cucumbers. The chicken meat we were served was dark, i would have preferred white meat but that’s just my personal preference.

Kung Pao Chicken

Another classic Sichuan Chinese dish, so we had to order it. I think this dish was so-so but I’m comparing it to my favourite gong bao chicken from NTU Canteen 11.

Assortment of Skewers

skewers from chef china

Chef China has quite a number of skewer options for a restaurant that also sells so many other main dishes. It was my first time eating chuan chuan so I don’t have a prior comparison on whether it was good or not. The chicken wings we ordered were a bit dry for my liking but the pork belly skewers were juicy and delicious.

Similar to main dishes, you’re able to select the spice level you would like for each one of your skewers. There is a minimum amount to order for each type of skewer so I would recommend coming with a larger group of friends if you want to try a bigger variety of food!

Crowd & Seating

We arrived around 9pm on a Friday night and the restaurant had available seats, but was not completely empty. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Since it was pretty warm outside when we visited, we chose an indoor table.

After ordering, our food arrived relatively quickly with no long wait.

How To Get There

Although it may seem far from Bugis on the map, it is actually a very convenient walk. It is located right at the end of the popular Liang Seah Street where the Ah Chew Dessert and Chong Qing Grilled Fish is at.

From Bugis Junction, head towards Toast Box, cross the road to Liang Seah Street and walk all the way to the end where it intersects with Beach Road.
